Tasting Ideas
Here are some ideas for wine tastings that we either haven't done (ever), or haven't done in a while.
Some of these have names listed. This means that the idea has been claimed, so please do not use it!
And if you think you don't like a particular offering (some of us hate beer, etc.), come anyway and take a
sip of each. You might find something; even if not, you'll be expanding your palate (which is what this is all about, right?).
- German Rieslings
- Focus on a single region (Mosel, etc), and provide selections of different styles (Kabinett, Spatlese, etc.)
- Focus on a single style (Kabinett, Spatlese, Auslese, etc.), and provide selections from different regions (Mosel, Rheingau, Nahe, etc.)
- Tokay, the wonderful Hungarian dessert wine.
- Glasses tasting. Same wine, different glasses. (Steve)
- Right Grape, Wrong Color. Wines made in different styles, such as whites/roses from Pinot Noir. (Robin)
- Beaujolais/Rhone
- If you're driving through an unusual state (North Carolina? Connecticut? New Jersey?), pick up a case of wines from
a single, or different, local wineries.
- Beer
- Belgian
- Compare different styles (so many styles... here's a starting point!)
- Food and wine. A single "interesting" dish served with a variety of beverages.
- Curries and wins/beers
- Thai food and wines/beers
- Box wine.
- Scottish Whisky. One of each of the major regions, to see the stylistic variations.
- Amari. Those wonderful Italian herbals. I keep seeing them and wanting to try them all.
