Cocktails with Varying Bases

This tasting was a two-parter.

In the first part, we sampled three pairs of cocktail bases: two rums, two gins, and two bourbons.

In the second part, we sampled cocktails. Two daiquiris, one with each rum. Two South Sides, one with each gin. Two Boulevardiers, one with each bourbon.

Cocktail Recipes:

  • El Floridita Daiquiri

    • 2 oz white rum
    • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
    • 1 1/2 t simple syrup
    • 1 t maraschino liqueur

    Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake well, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a thin slice of lime.

  • South Side

    • 5 mint leaves
    • 1 oz fresh lime juice
    • 2 oz gin
    • 1 oz simple syrup

    In a shaker, gently muddle the mint and lime juice. Add remaining ingredients, fill with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a mint sprig or lemon twist.

  • Boulevardier (Whisky Negroni)

    • 3/4 oz Campari
    • 1 1/4 oz Sweet Vermouth
    • 1 1/4 oz Whiskey

    Add all ingredients to a rocks glass filled with ice and stir to combine. Garnish with an orange twist.
